Reflection:
The artifact that will be used for the design, development, implementation, communication and evaluation of technology pan would be the SWOT plan in ITEC 7410. The Analysis was completed to be able to identify the status of Dade Middle’s current use of technology in the classroom. When discussing the current use of technology, the ISTE standards were used to be able to see what is and what is not missing from the current status in the classroom. While this was for a class assignment, I did complete this with my principal and my mentor to understand how things need to be improved and how this could serve as a resource for information for the stakeholders.
The mastery of the standard includes the artifact to facilitate the design and development of a plan, the implementation of the plan, the communication of the plan, and the evaluation of the plan. This artifact shares how I am able to investigate and produce information for how to improve technology use in the classroom at the Middle School. In the beginning stages of facilitating and designing a program, the use of the ISTE standards are designed for eight different standards. The designing stage took a month and a half to collect data for understanding of the current reality in the school. When creating a plan, the current reality of the school needs to be taken into consideration which includes providing more opportunities for professional development on using the Chromebooks in a productive manner in the classroom. The first few questions give an idea of how and if research based standards are being used to implement technology and what type of response are needed to ensure student achievement. It also provides opportunities to be able to pinpoint what difficulties teachers are having such as being able to collaborate with co-teachers in an effective manner. The next step is the development of the plan and implementation of the plan in the classroom. To implement the plan, everyone (including administration) has to be on board to complete all the activities in a positive manner. The implementation of the plan includes being able to include assistive technology and creating and observing how the lack of diversity plays a part in understanding student achievement before and after technology. The implementation will include providing professional development for teachers and parents on Google Classroom and other tech tools to increase student engagement. The Stakeholders, such as the school board, will be included in the training. The communication for the plan includes the use of the DMS Chrome Squad for training and other on-going professional development. The Chrome squad, along with the “Googly Girls” training team will continue to communicate with stakeholders on how technology is either improving or regressing in the school. Data collection began with surveys and room observations to be able to see how and what technology is being implemented in the classroom and what needs to be addressed with the professional development. The SWOT analysis was a great addition to the vision and rationale tool because it provides the current reality of the school.
The was a really difficult assignment because I felt that I repeated myself so many different times. There are so many things that need to be improved and understood when creating a productive technology program in the school system. I learned that it takes more than one teacher idea to create and approve a program and being able to include stakeholders for the technology infuses strategic plan. The one thing I would do differently would be to use the information in a more productive manner then constantly repeating myself and becoming concerned with more than just professional development. I would like to use the ISTE diagnostic standards for more clear and concise information then what I had originally written.
The work that went into the artifact impacting school improvement made me appreciate how to create an effective analysis of the current reality in the school system. This SWOT analysis did begin to stir some thoughts on how to improve professional development for teachers and provide a leadership opportunity for myself. The impact can be assessed through observation and see how teachers are using technology in the classroom.
