Reflection:
The artifact that was chosen for this standard is to use the Engaged Learning Project that was created in ITEC 7400. The purpose of this activity is for students to use digital tools to increase engagement in the classrooms for the students. This was an individual activity and I created the entire lesson with feedback from classmates. The engagement for the students include speaking to other students via Skype and then complete presentations based on the interactions in cultural differences.
The standards asks for the candidates model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to engage students in authentic learning experiences. The purpose of this activity is to increase students' awareness of other cultures by “virtually” meeting other students and work on similar activities. The use of digital tools used by students encourage more of a project-based learning activity compared to the typical pen/paper activity. Any time a student is able to complete an activity and share the information via virtually, such as Flipgrid or Screencastify. This type of skill will be extremely important to students in future professional careers.
One thing I learned while competing this artifact was how much I think my students can accomplish and it made me happy. I feel that this activity would encourage my students to broaden their horizons. This was an interesting artifact to complete and reflect upon at the end of the program. There are so many different ways I would have engaged the student in conversation with expectations of how to discuss and talk with another culture and have even played a scene for the students to understand other cultures.
The work that was created for this activity was a complicated process. There were several drafts with detail that needed to be fine tuned before the lesson could take place in the classroom. There are several things that needed to be completed before the students can use it, which was a great lesson to be able to identify what I need to work on to be able to plan effectively for my students. Being able to plan effective is based on student learning and achievement in the classroom. The impact can be assessed on students understanding throughout the year in a pre/post test option for the project.
