Reflection:
For this standard, I have chosen to use the data review that I created in ITEC 7305, which encapsulates a data review for Dade Middle over the course of the last year. The artifact focuses on using data from assessments and the impact on the scores from the eighth grade. There is a lot of information shared for administrators including the current statistic and previous test scores from Dade Middle. My individual contribution for the activity include gathering and interpreting the data. I did seek out the input from administration and the academic coach to get a more standing on what the data meant as a whole to the school.
Data Analysis is a critical point of school improvement and reviewing material is one of the many parts to get a plan of action together. The standard requires the artifact to show how the use of digital tools was warranted to collect, analyze, and interpret data. I sued the information given from the state department of education website to be able to review information. I used PowerPoint to create a slideshow to share with my administration and grade level chairs. Another part of the standard is to be able to communicate the results, which is evident in the presentation, especially the breakdown of the different economic factors of the student population.
There are several things that I learned while completing this artifact. IT was a great project because when I completed the activity, it was my first year at Dade Middle School. This was a great way to learn about the current school population. Another area of interest was learning how the school is struggling with language arts testing but gaining in their scores in math. If i could do the activity differently, I would do another grade level that was more meaningful to me. I haven't really work with the 8th grade, as much as I have with 6th or 7th grade. This information would make my teaching more purposeful.
The work that was created can impact both school improvement and faculty development. Both school improvement and faculty development can be affected because they are very similar and deal with the entire population and the makeup of what teachers teach in the classroom. The impact can be assessed based on the varying scores from the Georgia Milestones.
