Reflection: The artifact I used for this standard was the Engaged Learning Project for ITEC 7400. This project was a project that used different technology strategies to communicate with another culture and report their findings per Flipgrid or some type of presentation to share with members of the community. While this was an individual assignment, I did receive some feedback from classmates that helped me determine and focus more on a particular topic.
This standard asks for the artifact to show how classroom management can happen while a technology assignment is happening in the classroom. At the beginning of the artifact, the learning environment is explained and the diversity of the students is considered. For this type of activity, it is something that is worked with pairs of students and the teacher facilitating the activity. It is an activity that would take place over the course of a semester. The other part of the standard asks for the artifact to show how the candidate demonstrates the ability to model and facilitate effective collaborative learning strategies. For this activity, collaborative learning is a must because of working together with another classroom in another country to learn and converse about cultural differences.
There are several things that I have learned while completing this artifact. It is a great opportunity to be able to collaborate with others outside of our area. This allows the students to learn different things from what they learn on a consistent basis in our area. One of the main things I would change for this activity is to expand it beyond Mexico and reach out to a classroom in Canada, so we could get a varying responses to questions.
The work that went into creating the artifact can impact student learning because it allows students to be able to expand their knowledge and ideas beyond their current situation. The impact can be assessed by completing checkpoints throughout the project to see if and how understanding is happening for the students.
