Reflection:
When looking at different artifacts for this particular standard, the artifact I have chosen is my equitable access blog for ITEC 7430. Equitable access is something that is near and dear to my heart because all students should be able to learn, we just have to figure out what tools they need to use to be successful in the classroom. This was an individual assignment so therefore the blog post were my thoughts pertaining to the module for access and different tools.
To demonstrate mastery of this particular standard, the artifact has to model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access for all students. As I was writing this blog post, I reflected on several different applications we had been discussing and identified one in particular that I really did not care for in the classroom. Google tours is not something I would have typically used in the language arts classroom. This is not what an instructional coach should be thinking because I should share all different tools, and let the teachers decide. When talking about equitable access, the discussion of the dreaded digital divide was mentioned and how they can play a huge factor in how students deal/use technology in the classroom. My main concern is how my students with disabilities are using the Chromebook with the best tools to achieve things in other classes and how I can make this happen in the other classrooms.
The main idea I learned from this particular artifact is how judgemental I can be of some technology. If the tech does not help me right now, I seem not to care about it. ONe of the ideas I discussed was Google Tour, which can be used in my language arts class. I know this because I could use it to help with setting or descriptions of different places for my students, in regards to a story. The Digital Divide is a major concern of mine, especially being in the district I am in, so therefore coming up with ideas that are useable for all my students is a struggle. The main idea I would change is being more open to learning about other apps that seem to be used in other academic areas, such as social studies.
The work creating this blog post has impacted student learning because it has helped me reflect on my current teaching practices and challenged me to improve with new apps and extensions. The impact can be assessed by the use of technology in my classroom for my students.
