Artifact: 4.3_information.pdf
Reflection:
4.3 focuses on diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness in the classroom. For this artifact, I have chosen to use a blog post that discusses different applications for potential uses for students with disabilities or students who struggle with different things. While this may not be your typical diversity post because it discussed inclusion in the classroom which can extend into global connections, it fits the standard of support diverse students. This was an individual assignment that required research and exploration on my part and reflection.
This standard is requiring the artifact to show the use of digital tools and resources to support diverse learners, enhance cultural understanding, and to increasing global awareness. This blog post describes how several different apps can enhance the learning experiences for students of diverse needs. There is discussion of a Microsoft Translator app which helps make materials useful to students who may struggle with English. Adobe Spark can be used to create cultural presentation to share information. THe Class Notebook App can be used to collect and sort work from students with disabilities to gather information about data and they can be in control of the information.
I learn about several new activities that can be sued in my classroom to benefit my students with disabilities. Another interesting thought was how so many of our activities and applications are based on a single type of student, which makes it harder for any student who is not considered the norm. I would have explored more ideas for students with Enlgish as a Second Language because it is an area of weakness for me. I would focus more on how to make more fun global connections for my students to learn about other cultures.
The work for this artifact impacts student learning because it can help determine what applications I should be using in the classroom for my students with disabilities. The impact can be assessed through observing and competing mini-assessments on my student to check to see their understanding and using of apps.
