Reflection:
The artifact that was chosen for this is a coaching journal that was completed in ITEC 7460. While there were many different opportunities for collaboration and coaching in this particular class, the one experience that was very important to me was the coaching activity, I completed with my co-teacher. This coaching experience allows us to grow as a classroom team and provide more engaging activities for the students. Therefore the context for this artifact was a professional collaboration between teachers and integration of the technology in the classroom. This was a collaborative activity, even though it was considered an individual assignment.
The standard asks for the practitioner to be able to develop and implement technology that is aligned to the state and national technology standards. This was completed in discussing different technologies that could be used in her classroom, based on the survey results she shared with me. We also discussed the four big question pertaining to classroom management and discussed how to increase expectations and engagement with more project-based learning. As we have been discussing different platforms, we talked about how to use Nearpod and Google classroom for her students. We implemented them in the classroom and completed a task over four days to see the students' reactions. This meets the standard to support face to face/online tech integration and being able to promote online learning with a project, rather than a simple review activity. This professional learning activity promoted best teaching practices because we reflected as co-teachers to actually see how and what we needed to do in the classroom for our kids.
One thing I learned from completing this artifact is to have more positive interactions with my co-teacher. Which as a special education teacher is vital to build that relationship from the beginning of the school year. One thing I would love to have completed with this artifact is expanded into more sessions rather than four sessions. I think that this would have been a great project to complete over the course of the school year.
The work that went into creating the artifact makes me appreciate our academic coach, even more because of all the time it takes to build a positive relationship with other teachers. This was a great activity to be able to build rapport with my co-teacher and consider different ways to be able to engage my students. The impact can be assessed through our discussions and wall through interactions from our administration.
