1.4 Diffusion of Innovations & Change
Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. (PSC 1.4/ISTE 1d)
Artifact: technology-teacher_needs.pdf
Reflection:
The artifact was created in ITEC 7460 and it is an assessment based on a teacher assessment and coaching experience. The context in which it was created and used was in a co-teaching classroom to improve the technology usage in the classroom. I created the survey based on the form for a planned coaching opportunity (Knight, 2007). The assessment was a great interview tool to be able to start to figure out the plan of action for the coaching activity and improving in student engagement in the classroom.
The standard ask for the candidate to research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating/sustaining technology in the classroom which then will help lead into change progress in school. When creating and discussing with my-teacher, we discussed the LoTi levels and being able to identify which digital tools she is using in her classroom. Mrs.Wright and I discussed how the collaboration of lessons to include effective classroom management via the Chromebooks to provide authentic learning experiences would be a great goal to achieve by the end of the year. This will initiate and sustain innovations in the classrooms and allow other teachers to see examples of how to use technology in an effective manner.
When reviewing and creating this artifact, I was able to remember how much I enjoyed the coaching process and how it was a great way to be able to collaborate with another teacher to meet all the various needs for students with disabilities. It was a great opportunity to be able to learn from her,as well because I struggle with being able to use the promethean board in a cohesive manner. To improve the quality of the artifact, I would have used a different survey tool that was more realistic to a middle school environment. I feel that if the survey was different, I might have been able to really pinpoint activities she needed, rather than focusing on several different topics.
The work that went into creating the artifact did impact school improvement because it allowed a standard to be set for collaborative teaching because the current method is not a positive impact for students or teachers. It has allowed us to really identify how to collaborate in an engaging and fun manner. This impact can be assessed in the effectiveness of the teaching and experience of the classrooms.
