Artifact: copyright_presentation.pdf
Reflection:
For this standard, I have chosen to use my copyright presentation from ITEC 7445. The copyright presentation was an opportunity to revisit and learn about different copyright understanding and ethical practices. This was an individual activity and made a presentation to share with others.
The standard requires the artifact demonstrate the ability to use digital tools in safe, legal, and ethical uses of technology. By creating this powerpoint, I am able to discuss with my students about the Fair Use Act and ethical activities. This was really important for the kids to understand how they can’t copy someone else’ work without giving permission. We discussed how to search for images via open concepts and setting limits in Google Chrome. This artifact lead to many great discussions about ethics and plagiarism in the middle school classroom.
One of the important things I learned from this activity was about copyright. I was not aware of how specific and meaningful the law was pertaining to using other’s images. This was a great discussion to have with my middle schoolers about plagiarism and what can happen if not following the protocol. I would change my presentation to include an example via a video clip or a screenshot of what can happen by violating the copyright law.
This artifact impact student learning because it helps the students redesign their technology understanding via other people’s materials. The impact can be defined as checking the progression of my students’ materials and how they are following the law
