The different tools that I shared via my screencast are ones that I really thought were a great addition to what Web 2.0 means in today’s classroom. When I was looking for different tools, I wanted things that I could definitely use with my class or my Chrome Squad. The Chrome Squad is my capstone project and I am always looking for anything that engage my students. Web 2.0 has made learning so much more fun especially for students with disabilities because computers have been a fun way for the students to engage in their learning. There are several resources that have been shared via our platform and one really great resource is Edshelf. Edshelf is a place that has different apps and reviews from other teachers. As a teacher, it is always much easier to use other teachers’ opinion then to “reinvent the wheel.” Another great option with Edshelf is that you can search for any type of application you may be looking for and then get a wide variety of options. The tools that I chose can definitely support students’ collaboration because they allow the students to be more in control of their own learning and I get to just support their efforts, as a coach. In my resource room, I struggle being able to always excite my students about completing assignments via paper form, but having them create something multimedia seems to spark some type of interest in them. In my screencast, I shared some of the advantages and disadvantages to several of the applications but one of the biggest disadvantages is when a teacher has to purchase a subscription because not everyone is willing to spend the money on a new and fun idea.
BYOD is a very fun ways to let the students know that they are able to bring their own devices and use them in the classroom. I am in a middle school and we do not have a BYOD policy in my school. I have been in a classroom where the teachers has allowed the students to use the phone for research purpose but it has only been a very small amounts of time.
BYOD is something that needs to be plan and carefully pursued in the classroom because it can help or hinder the digital learning experience for the students. One way I would like for it to be used in my classroom is to ensure that the actual technology standards will be meet based on wifi bandwidth and software that could be compatible will all of the students’ phones or devices (BYOD, 2018).Managing the BYOD is very similar to being able to manage the Chromebooks in the classroom. There are several different things that I would like to incorporate in the classroom. The BYOD needs to be able to enhance the learning experiences for the students in the classroom, not be a constant source of frustration for both the teachers and the students.
Our current technology in the classroom is using Chromebooks. TO fix any of the issues, I have been using Google and the Chrome Store to be able to help identify and fix things. I am also guilty if asking our media specialist to help me.
The video below is a great tool for some suggestions from our module on how to handle BYOD.
